I’m very curious about what the masses like to see in the fantasy genre. It’s currently the genre I’m focusing on with my writing, but what draws you in? What do you wish you had more of? Every reader wants different things, of course, just like each book is different and each author writes differently. These are things I’m aware of, yet I still want to pose the question. I know that I personally like being able to say “I guessed that right” a little less than I like to say “I certainly didn’t expect that!”. I like stories that push some boundaries without making me extremely uncomfortable, and I want less damsels in distress. For the love of all things, I want to know that everything doesn’t work out perfectly for the main character! Ok, so I’m a bit passionate about that last one.
I’d like for my next fantasy book series to be inclusive, to an extent, with my audience. That doesn’t mean that I want the book to be written the exact way that my readers want (mostly because not everyone wants the same thing), but suggestions for character names and diversity or “please write something that with a strong male/female lead” is what I’m looking for. So, again I ask, what sort of fantasy novel would you like to read? What are some key components that you wish were included in the books you’ve read thus far? What do you wish was left out? The next series I write, I want to plan it out as best I can. If you want to be apart of the process, be sure to follow this blog.
