I never thought I would enjoy posting YouTube videos as much as I have. I think there is something to be said about those who are just starting out all others who have been posting for some time. I am literally posting content that I would find entertaining. I’m not tainted by opinions (good or bad) and I’m not trying to follow trends. It’s simply about enjoying the experience. From what I’ve gathered and seen first hand from popular YouTubers I followed over the years, there seems to be a rut that most fall victim to. The chasing of the numbers, the likes, the follows, the popularity instead of the fun of making videos (which is how it all began). Once they find out what their viewers want, they stick with it even if it’s no longer what they want to create. Everyone changes over the years and being stifled into staying the same (I imagine) must be a difficult task. There is a freedom in the content you create when you create it solely for yourself. Of course you’ll want to appease the masses somewhat, but is it really worth it if you don’t like it yourself? My goal is to remain authentically myself no matter what. Sure I love to make people laugh and I hope that I am accomplishing that, but I’m just as happy entertaining the small group of people who enjoy my type of humor. If that’s how far it goes, then I’ll be ok with that.
If you are considering starting a YouTube channel, do it! I wish I’d taken my friends advice sooner. Things don’t have to be aligned exactly how you see fit before you take a leap off the cliff of uncertainty, especially when you know the drop is only a few inches high. Oooh that’s a vibe!
